Case Study: RWE Croatia Website on AWS

The Client

RWE is one of Europe’s top electricity and gas companies.  It has around 59,000 employees supply over 20 million electricity customers and 10 million gas customers with energy. In fiscal 2014, it recorded €48,5 billion in revenue.

Business Needs

Early 2015, RWE started to commercially offer gas to customers in Croatia, thus a new website dedicated to the market was needed to support promotion and introduce about the company. The new website was expected to be easy and flexible to maintain in terms of content, and also compatible to both mobile and desktop devices. RWE had the idea of using Cloud infrastructure to reduce cost of infrastructures, maintenance.

Solutions

FPT Software team consulted with RWE colleagues and chose AWS as the Cloud platform for the website. The challenge of optimizing content maintenance and management was addressed by adopting Sitecore’s award winning content management system.
The project team placed the entire web system on AWS Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) which contains two subnets: Public for content delivery and management; and Private for database storing. The web applications are hosted on several Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) instances to assure high levels of performance while Elastic Load Balancing (Amazon ELB) distributes incoming traffic across the EC2 instances. All the system’s databases are deployed and managed by Amazon Relational Database Services (Amazon RDS).

Benefits

Within 3 months, FPT Software team delivered a high quality product at a reasonable efforts and costs. The new website was up to the customer’s expectation and served to help the customer’s business operation and expansion.
